Kuuasema, a leading game studio based in Helsinki with 22 years of history and a team of 85, is seeking an experienced technical artist to join our dynamic team. Our business is divided between partner projects from renowned companies like Supercell, Red Bull, Rovio, and Remedy, as well as the development of our own exciting IP, such as Cthulhu Keeper.
We are looking for a Technical Artist to bring ambitious creative visions to life, giving our UI and gameplay visuals the polish and craftsmanship they deserve while making sure they run beautifully in Unity. From hand-tuning shaders to animating immersive visual effects, you will be the artist who knows how to make the “impossible” look effortless in-game.
We are seeking a highly skilled artist with a strong eye for visual quality and a genuine passion for player experience. You should have solid experience in game development, hands-on skill implementing UI art, FX, and animation in Unity, and the creative ownership to see a feature through from concept to polish.
What you’ll do
- You will act as a bridge between departments, turning creative concepts into functional systems within Unity.
- You will develop and maintain UI shaders while designing and optimizing particle systems and visual effects that bring our worlds to life.
- You will identify and resolve bottlenecks related to rendering, shaders, and animation. Your work ensures that our visual quality never comes at the cost of a smooth player experience.
- You will build tools and scripts that improve artist productivity and proactively collaborate on asset pipelines and optimization strategies.
What we’re looking for
- You have extensive experience working in Unity and a solid understanding of real-time rendering constraints.
- You are comfortable working with JavaScript, Python, and HTML. Knowledge of Lua or shader languages like HLSL, GLSL, or Shader Graph is a significant advantage.
- You have a track record of creating 2D UI-focused shaders and implementing high-quality particle systems.
- You can debug visual and performance issues independently and have a strong grasp of mobile game optimization.
- You are a strong communicator who is comfortable working across disciplines to find the best solutions for the product.
Fluent English is a must, as itβs our working language at the studio.
This position is a hybrid with three days minimum at the office. This role is open to candidates already based in Finland with the right to work here.
What we offer

- A company culture where people and their wellbeing always come first β we believe that happy, healthy developers create the best games.
- A supportive and inclusive work environment that values collaboration, creativity, and personal growth.
- Mutual respect, trust, and balance β values that are at the core of everything we do.
