Hybrid, Helsinki

Lead Programmer, Boom Beach

Kuuasema, a leading game studio based in Helsinki with 22 years of history and a team of 70, is seeking an experienced developer to join our dynamic team. Our business is divided between partner projects from renowned companies like Supercell, Red Bull, Rovio, and Remedy, as well as the development of our own exciting IP, such as Cthulhu Keeper.

We are now looking for a Lead Programmer to join a great team and work in close collaboration with Supercell to shape the future of one of their beloved titles. Boom Beach has been blowing up beaches for over a decade, and we’re just getting started. This isn’t a greenfield project – it’s a living, breathing game with a passionate global player base and plenty of runway ahead. If you thrive on untangling complex legacy systems, mentoring talented engineers, and shipping features that millions of players will actually feel – this is the role for you.

What you’ll do

You’ll be the technical anchor of the team, the person who holds the architectural picture in their head, sets the bar for code quality, and helps everyone around you ship better work. Boom Beach has 12 years of codebase, a global player base, and a passionate team at Supercell who treat it like family. Your job is to keep it healthy, push it forward, and stay close enough to the code that your decisions are grounded in what the game actually needs.

  • Owning the technical and quality vision for the game with hands-on involvement in development
  • Driving architectural alignment and leading technical discovery for new initiatives
  • Leading the technical evaluation of upcoming features and internal tools, and advising cross-functional partners to ensure decisions are aligned with our tech strategy and long-term goals
  • Collaborating daily with internal and external stakeholders to make sure everyone is aligned on upcoming tech requirements
  • Working as a unifying tech voice across teams, enabling scalable, efficient development through better tools and practices
  • Working closely with central tech/platform/data/security teams to align on shared services, tools, and standards
  • Owning the key technical interfaces to app stores and platform partners
  • Continuously improving and updating tools, processes, and the codebase to ensure efficiency

What we’re looking for

You’ve spent serious time in live game codebases and you know what it takes to keep one healthy over the long haul. You’re hands-on by instinct — happy to dig into a tricky bug or prototype something new — but you also see the bigger picture and naturally pull people together around it. You care about the craft, about the people you work with, and about getting things right rather than just getting them done.

  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership in cross-functional teams, including aligning architecture and engineering practices for large-scale systems
  • Strong experience working with live free-to-play mobile games
  • Solid professional background in writing games in C++ and working across different technologies
  • Skilled in profiling, debugging, and performance analysis
  • Good understanding of multi-platform development on iOS, Android and ideally also PC, Mac or Web
  • Experience shipping at scale: CI/CD, branching strategies, rollouts, rollbacks, incidents, and post-mortems are familiar territory
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proactive, self-directed, and focused on driving meaningful outcomes

Fluent English is a must, as it’s our working language at the studio. Finnish is a nice bonus, but not a requirement.

This position is a hybrid with 3 days minimum at the office. We welcome applications from candidates who already have the right to work in Finland (e.g., a valid residence or work permit, or EU/EEA/Swiss citizenship). At this time, we are unfortunately not able to provide visa sponsorship.

What we offer

  • The opportunity to work with talented people in engaging and ambitious projects
  • A company culture where people and their wellbeing always come first — we believe that happy, healthy developers create the best games
  • A supportive and inclusive work environment that values collaboration, creativity, and personal growth
  • Mutual respect, trust, and balance — values that are at the core of everything we do
  • Competitive salary with room for growth based on your contributions and development within the company
  • Several benefits including lunch, healthcare, free gym, annual leave, and commuting benefits
